Sarg TMT is the beginning of a campaign for The Music. Collaborating with the artist Chris Boyd, The Music are introducing audiences to an alternate reality game based on their new album. Rumoured to be titled “Strength in Numbers”, the leading up campaign focuses on the collective efforts of its audience to solve puzzles. The collective detective efforts increase the chances of solving problems.
The force of the videos comes across in the way that they are able to communicate on many different levels at the same time. It’s this effect that Boyd challenges us to tease apart the significance of the multiple layers if we are to understand the themes of the album. The surface level imagery is as complex and difficult to grasp as the metaphorical structure at the subtext of the work. In Sarg TMT layer 3 the viewers understanding of films language, chronological sequences of events, space and time is scrapped for more philosophical thought. Boyd’s contempt for the rules produces these inspired works that employ an intricate language of symbolism and metaphor. Its power emanates from its flavour of mystery, intrigue, raw, turbulent and overwhelmingly emotional sequences.
